Pretty Pretty Moss is a newsletter documenting my progress learning more about ecology and practicing communicating science clearly and beautifully. I made this newsletter to become a better artist, to keep my interests close, and to practice shaping my ideas into more tangible forms. My goal is to build a community of people interested in similar things that would like to continue exploring together.

‘Subscribing’ = You receiving an email each time I publish new art (about once or twice a month)
You will also be the first to know about any free prints/treasure I mail out just for fun, and any time I list new artwork or t-shirts for sale online.
Most importantly, by simply bearing witness to my little micro-publication, you will help encourage me to keep learning and making more art!
If you are interested in keeping up with me as I move closer to my goals of world domination providing my present and future communities with the prettiest ecological visual media possible, I would be so grateful.
I’m Mickey, an artist and ecologist who has been both painting and really excited about nature for as long as I can remember. My research so far has mostly revolved around rivers and community ecology questions such as how resources are shared or why different species live where they do.
Moss captures everything I love about ecology. It’s so bright. So alive. It seems both straightforward and complex at the same time. And it grows everywhere, so it feels really accessible to everyone. Have you ever looked really closely at moss? It’s so pretty in there. I could stare at moss forever, imagining myself as one of the microscopic beings living life among it’s cute little fronds and contours.
And the world is filled to the brim with pretty, pretty moss.
